Staycold International is committed to the environment and doing our part in the Race to Net Zero by making use of the latest technologies and innovations. This to ensure that our units are built and manufactured using materials that don’t contribute to global warming such as low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants and insulation materials. We are also increasing the energy efficiency of our units by using materials and components such as Low-E glass, Digital Energy Management devices and High Efficiency fans. They are also built to last resulting in a durable reliable product that bucks against the consumerism culture that exists in our world today. One such example of this, our HD1140-HC, was recently included in the Environmental Investigation Agency’s (EIA) Pathway for Net-Zero Cooling Products.
This race to Net-Zero is part of how we drive towards sustainability. It forms one of our initiatives where we strive to build sustainable, equitable, healthy, and diverse communities through a combination of innovative business practises and exemplary environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
Staycold recently received their KUDOS ESG ACCREDITATION certificate indicating that we have displayed a satisfactory level of performance across our Environmental, Social and Governance performance indicators as measured by the : UN Global Compact, IFC Performance Standards, UN Guiding Principles for Human Rights.
Environment
The environment, and our impact on it, has always been at the forefront of Staycold’s business operations. Our Facility is located in an industrial area of Parys, a town in the Northern Free State known for its natural beauty as well as the Vaal river that flows through the town. Our factory’s energy supply is supplemented by a 250,000W solar power installation on its roof that greatly reduces our use of coal fired utility power. The facilities equipment is also carefully controlled through the use of timers and relays to ensure that consumption is limited wherever possible especially during the night as well a business-critical use of our generator system.
Elements of our climate change strategy is steered by the knowledge that the largest contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint is from the products that we manufacture as and when they enter service. It is for this reason that we are moving our entire range of products to operate on low GWP hydrocarbon gas, optimise transport logistics and the local sourcing of raw materials where possible.
Social
Staycold is fully committed to its role in contributing to and being part of a fair, just and equal society. We have a clean report of findings from the Department of Employment and Labour, certificate of good standing with the GMA and fall under the auspice of the MEIBC. Although these are regulated authorities and we are bound by them, our primary driver with regards to fair pay and living wages is our firm belief of social responsibility to our staff and the wider community.
Governance
Since its founding in 1979, Staycold has maintained a record of clean audits every year since. Now as part of a wider group of companies, Universal Industries International, the business follows the King IV corporate governance principles and practices.
Staycold as a business endeavours to conform to the strictest standards of business practices to service the markets we operate in and it is for this reason that the company, as well as the products we supply adhere to international standards such as IEC safety regulations and ISO testing procedures for our products, ISO 9001 QMS systems for our facility.
